Label printing plays an important role in designating the quality of brands and the identity of their products in a competitive marketplace. Businesses around the globe make use of label prints to promote their services in an appealing manner. From blank roll labels to glossy price tag labels, there are a number of variations to suit all sorts of requirements. However, there are a few common myths about label printing that are certainly not true. Let’s bust some of these misconceptions!

Not Safe for the Environment

It’s a common fallacy among people that any form of printing is unsustainable and is associated with generation of huge amount of waste products. However, one must be clear of the concept behind digital printing, which not only reduces the waste production but also avoids employing hazardous chemicals into the operation.  Unlike the traditional printing processes, digital printing is more organized in terms of what needs to be printed and what exact amount it should be done.

Only Recycled Papers Should Be Used for Label Prints

The term ‘recycled’ can be misleading for certain applications. Paper is extracted from a renewable material and as a product of wood; it continues to store carbon throughout its life span. Recycled papers on the other hand have a higher carbon footprint than the virgin papers. The latter can be easily produced using bio-fuels which have no harmful impact on the environment, as compared to the fossil fuels.  Most of the timber employed in label printing is extracted from renewed forests, which are reforested every time a tree is cut down to produce paper.

Short-Run is an Expensive Choice for Label Printing

With the advent of new features in the modern digital printers, short run printing is an affordable choice when label printing.  This is largely made possible by innovative digital printing equipments that have an edge over the traditional offset printing.  Here, you do not have the upfront cost of prolonged set-up or plate creation. Low maintenance and minimum system cost is required for printing short runs for each job, thus keeping the unit cost on the lower side.

Metallic Ink Finish Cannot Be Imprinted on Digital Press

This is a misleading fact about label printing, although it was true in the past, when you had to settle for metallic paper in order to achieve the shiny metallic affect. Nowadays you can create thousands of different variations apart from silver and gold and create different effects by tinkering with the color combinations. You can have such finishes exactly imprinted on the digital presses.

Production of Printing Paper is a Waste of Energy

On a comparative level, paper production falls quite low in energy consumption. In fact, much of the energy used in producing paper is renewable. On an average, it takes 500 Kwh to produce 2 quintals of papers, which is a lot of return in terms of energy invested. Paper production from wood pulp makes up the least (1.1%) amount of world’s greenhouse gas emissions. It uses renewable, low carbon energy that is more biomass based.
