Reasons to print warning labels

Businesses which sell packaged goods should put warning labels on them, and because each business is unique, their warning labels should be too. There are a number of reasons why you’ll want to opt for a customized warning label over one which is generic. Let’s explore some of these reasons below:

Warning Labels Protect You From Lawsuits

Failing to put a warning label on your packaging can lead to a lawsuit if the product harms someone who uses it. This can be devastating, especially for smaller businesses that aren’t well established. A customized warning label here is much better than generic because it will provide specific warnings which are related to the goods you sell. A generic warning label will often be too vague, meaning in court it can be argued that the consumer didn’t have sufficient information to protect themselves.

The Warning Label Should Be Easy To See

If your warning labels are too small, or placed in a location that is hard to see it can put your customers in jeopardy. When designing warning labels make sure the color, line of sight and size are sufficient that virtually anyone can see them. While it is usually a good thing to be creative and unorthodox when designing most labels, this is not the case for warning labels, which should be designed and placed in a conservative way which is similar to your competitors so that they’re easy to find.

Warning Labels Should Provide Easy To Follow Instructions

The more difficult the instructions on the warning label are, the fewer people who will follow them, which increases the chance of an accident. When creating warning labels you want to keep things as simple as possible. You shouldn’t list more steps than is absolutely necessary, as this will make them harder to remember, and the language used should be simple and straightforward. Avoid fancy words when possible and if the process is complex, list a reason for every step.

Warning Labels Protect Those That Use Your Products

When those that use your products follow the warning labels contained on them, they will remain safe, which is the primary reason they should be used. However, warning labels require special care which is distinct from that which is required of other label types. If people don’t see your warning label or understand it if they do then it is useless and will not protect them from anything. The best warning labels are those which are designed for specific merchandise and specific scenarios.

Standard warning labels are fine for common situations that most people encounter regularly, such as wet floors. But this isn’t acceptable for the products sold by most businesses because these products are unique in both composition and the types of situations in which they’ll be used. For example, a standard wet floor warning sign will work for floors that are wet from water or other common liquids, but what happens if there is a toxic spill? In this situation, a standard wet floor water sign would be completely inadequate.
