Oftentimes, people say that undoing something can be more difficult that doing it in the first place. To some extent, this is true for removing labels. Sometimes, we paste the wrong labels in a rush or in some cases, we didn’t position it right and want to remove the label. Whatever the situation you find yourself in, here are some ways that you can use to remove labels like a pro:

What you need to know first

Regardless which type of removal method you choose, it’s always important to plan ahead and understand how best to tackle the task at hand. For example, you need to think about the label material and the type of surface you are dealing with. For those of you who have applied labels to adhesive-friendly surfaces such as metal and glass, you need to know that labels on such surfaces will be harder to remove. Also, if the adhesive is strong, you have to be more careful as you will easily tear the label into half if you try a forceful removal.

Using water to remove labels

One of the common ways to remove a label is by soaking it. This works especially well for food and drink labels. You also do not need any skill per se to try the removal method. First, use a sink and fill it up with water. Using lukewarm water here can add to the effectiveness of this removal method. Next, put the entire item that your label is affixed to into the sink and soak it. For example, if it is a beer bottle label you are trying to remove, simply soak the entire beer bottle into the sink. Soak it for an hour if the adhesive isn’t that strong, and if the adhesive is industrial grade, then it will be wise to soak it overnight. Because water will weaken the adhesive’s grip on the surface, you can simply peel off the label after the soaking duration.

Using a specialized label remover

It’s possible to buy label removers easily from a craft store. Most of these label removers come with one side of strong adhesive, so simply use the label remover to stick to the label and allow some time for both sides to bond together. Once you are sure that the label remover has worked its magic, simply peel the label remover off.

Using household ammonia for label removal

Do you know that household ammonia makes very good residue cleaners? In the case of removing labels, what it can do is loosen the grip of the adhesive. Simply dab a cotton pad with household ammonia and then place the cotton pad over the label you intend to remove. Next, tape the cotton pad on top of the label so that there’s pressure between the two. Wait for a few hours and once you remove the tape, you should find that the label has slipped off from the surface. This removal method is especially useful for surfaces such as glass.

Even though some of these methods are really easy to implement, wouldn’t it be nice to have repositionable labels in the first place?
