mailing and shipping labels

Both small and big companies find it financially wise and practical to order for larger amounts of mailing and shipping labels. This means that they need to store them until they are ready to be used. This is rather convenient because they don’t have to wait until the next order arrives for them to use the labels. Also, ordering labels in bulk means saving on printing costs. Label printing companies charge a lower cost per unit when a company orders for long print runs

When you decide to print your mailing or shipping labels in bulk, you have to be careful about how you store them. Improper storage conditions reduce the efficacy of labels. Labels need to be stored in a neutral, constant environment in order to maintain their original state. Adhesives mostly get affected by environmental factors like heat. If by chance the quality of adhesives gets compromised, it means a label cannot be attached properly and that leads to label wastage. How should you store your mailing and shipping labels?

Maintain A Constant Neutral Temperature

The main cause of adhesive degrading is exposure to fluctuating and extreme temperatures. Along with the strength of an adhesive, temperature is one of the factors that determines how well a label sticks to a surface. Exposing your labels to high or low temperatures while in storage alters the adhesive properties. An adhesive can set before application or even prevent it from working properly

Excessive heat can also affect the face material of your labels especially when dealing with paper laser labels. To store your labels, you need to keep them in room temperature. Be careful that you don’t store labels near items that can cause fluctuations in room temperature like computers, generators and printers. Do not install the room with heaters or air conditioning units so as not to alter the temperature.

Avoid Exposure To Light

Exposing labels to light does have a detrimental effect. Light affects both the adhesives and face materials used to make labels. You should not store your labels where there is light; whether natural light or artificial light. Light is known to cause fading or discoloration on the face material. Light also affects adhesives since it adds heat to a room. You should store your labels in a dark room or you can place a solid lid over your labels to keep them from light.

Avoid Damp Conditions

Labels are printed on paper material and it is obvious that you should store them in a dry place to keep them in good condition. Ensure that your storage room is clean and dry and do not expose them to any liquids and water. If your labels are waterproof, you don’t have to worry about them getting damaged by moisture or water. Liquids can also damage adhesives. Water reduces the surface area of adhesives meaning that a label will not bond well on a surface.

Store Labels In Their Original Packaging

You should never remove labels from their original plastic packaging. The plastic cover around the labels offers enough protection and allows labels to retain their original state while in storage. Order your labels from a reputable label printing company to ensure that you get high quality labels that will last for a long time.
