Lip balm products are a great addition to your collection of cosmetic products. These amazing products are known to keep your lips hydrated and moist so that your skin heals better. If you are maker of lip balm products, you’re in luck! We will be sharing some tips on how you can label your own creations and make them retail-worthy.

When it comes to labeling lip balm products, it can get confusing at times. But it does not always have to be this way. Read on to find out how you can label them so that you can sell these products with confidence.

Markting the Company or Team

It helps build brand awareness when your customers know who the makers of this product are. Go ahead and list down your personal or company name! While it is true that you have limited space to work with when creating labels of lip balm containers, you should still try to include your business address and not just your website. In addition, this provides a quick reference for your customers and they will know whom to look for when they run out of lip balm.

List the Quantity of Each Container

It is customary to display the quantity of the product that is present in each container. In the case of lip balm, they are solid products so you should go by weight which is ounces and grams.

Featuring the Ingredients

The common practice is to print the used ingredient from most used to least used. However, there are exceptions such colorants and these ingredients have to be added at to the end of your product’s ingredient list. If applicable, the names of the used ingredients must also follow the International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients rules. INCI is an international designation that’s being used to declare all ingredients used on the packaging of cosmetics. The rules are implemented to avoid hindering international trade and consumer understanding. Look at the short example below:

If your recipe is:

  • Two tablespoons of Cocoa Butter or Mango Butter (Let’s go with mango.)
  • Two tablespoons of Virgin Coconut Oil
  • Two tablespoons of Beeswax
  • One teaspoon of Pure Vanilla Extract

The ingredient list on your label should like this:  Mango Butter, Virgin Coconut Oil, Beeswax and Pure Vanilla Extract.

Ensure that you print the ingredient list horizontally and not in a bullet list.

Does Your Product Make Specific Claims?

There are some more details that require your due diligence to comply if you are making health claims or nutrient content claims. For instance, you may have a lip balm product that can heal cracked lips. If you want to make these kinds of claims, your lip balm will be considered as an over-the-counter drug. That being said, you need to notify the U.S. Food and Drug Administration by submitting an electronic form.

There you go! These are some of the important basics that you need to cover when labeling lip balm products and we hope that the process will be less intimidating for you now. If you are looking high quality lip balm labels, head on Cut Sheet Labels to start browsing!
